Top 5 Golf Courses in the US

Looking for that perfect golfing experience but not sure where to start? At TRAVELADVANCES.COM we’ve had our users voting to bring you the top 5 golf courses in the US.

1. Camargo Club, Ohio

Classy and quietly understated is how this course was described in Planet Golf USA. Camargo Club, located in Indian Hill, north-east of Cincinnati, is an exclusively private club designed by architect Seth Raynor back in the early 1920s, shortly before his death. With large greens and gently sloping hills, Camargo isn’t a long course, but it does require time to get around it.

The highlights of playing Camargo Club are the one-shot holes at the 5th and 11th which are modelled off the short holes at the famous St Andrews. Each is set atop a steep plateau, making for an interesting challenge.

Being a private club, the opportunity to play at Camargo Club is an opportunity to cherish.

2. The Golf Club, Ohio

One of the earliest creations by architect Pete Dye, The Golf Club opened in 1967 at New Albany, near Columbus, Ohio. It is easy to understand why this is considered one of Dye’s best designs, with its variety of hole shapes and lengths amongst its peaceful and seemingly remote surrounds. To add to its appeal, The Golf Club has, undoubtedly, one of the best locker rooms in the country, making this course the perfect pleasure to play.

A challenging course that is well worth taking up the invite if you’re ever fortunate enough to receive one, The Golf Club is a mature and well-established course with a few favorite holes, particularly the 10th and 13th.

3. Ballyneal Club, Colorado

A course that is about as close to nature as you might find, Ballyneal features expansive fairways, easily contoured greens, sand dunes and natural-looking bunkers and not a water feature in sight. Architect Tom Doak designed Ballyneal in 2005 for players to play against nature’s elements.

This walk-only course leads you through a beautiful and open natural landscape, pitting player against the elements from beginning to end. Playing at Ballyneal Club in Holyoke, Colorado, it is easy to understand why this course is considered one of the best links courses in the country.

4. Baltusrol Golf Club, New Jersey

Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, NJ is steeped in history. Dating back to 1922, Baltusrol has hosted many prestigious tournaments with some of the greatest players ever to have walked these tree-lined grounds. This course requires the best play, with its no-nonsense long and challenging holes. And one of the best parts about taking up the challenge of Baltusrol is to experience the clubhouse, definitely one of the finest you will ever have the pleasure of enjoying.

The signature hole on this beautiful course is the 4th hole, a 199 yard-par 3 hole that plays across the club’s largest water hazard.

5. Erin Hills Golf Club, Wisconsin

Hands down one of the best public golf courses you can play is Erin Hills, with its rolling dune-like hills, open expanse and stunning views, all located in Hartford, Wisconsin. Erin Hills has a very traditional feel to it, from its walking-caddie requirements, firm and fast fairways to the architectural beauty of its clubhouse and on-site accommodation facilities.

Spread across 652 acres, Erin Hills not only offers its gorgeous fairways, but they have the floodlit Drumlin putting course, practice facilities and the useful Kettle Loop, a collection of 5 holes grouped from Erin Hills original 18 holes, ideal for a quick game and reserved for those guests who have chosen an overnight stay.
